The EU Council has extended its sanctions targeting Russian hybrid threats for an additional year, until 9 October 2026, under Decision (CFSP) 2025/2019. These sanctions, first introduced in 2024 under Regulation (EU) 2024/2642, aim to counter activities that undermine democracy and the rule of law within the EU.
The sanctions regime targets individuals and entities deemed responsible for or involved in electoral interference, cyber-attacks, and the promotion of armed conflict in third countries, which are considered part of Russia’s hybrid threat strategies.
Currently, 47 individuals and 15 entities are subject to the measures, which include asset freezes, bans on financial transactions, and travel restrictions within the EU.
