UK Parliament Launches Inquiry into Deterring Russian Aggression — Submissions Open Until 8 July

The United Kingdom has launched a parliamentary inquiry into the UK's approach to deterring Russian aggression, with a particular focus on the imposition of costs and constraints on Russia. The inquiry is chaired by MP Matt Western and convened by a cross-party group of parliamentarians tasked with scrutinising government policy in this area.

The inquiry will examine four key questions:

• The UK's capacity to impose costs and constraints sufficient to further deter Russian aggression
• How to alter the risk calculations of key elements of the Russian system, including its security apparatus
• What measures would enable more effective European deterrence of Russia
• How the UK can work with its EU and NATO allies to reinforce a coordinated deterrence posture

• Evidence sessions were held on 15 and 22 June 2026. The inquiry is currently accepting written submissions from interested parties until 8 July 2026.
